Business trips = awesome

October 04, 2009

Do you know what I love about my job aside from being called a flagrant homo by high school kids? Going on road trips with puppies.

This week Ryder and I ended up in the awesome metropolis of Peterborough. Ryder had a sleepover party with her boyfriend Rufus. Afterwards we explored the Peterborough Lock (it’s haunted) and went up to Bobcaygeon looking for constellations. We had no luck with the stars, but we did find some awesome park benches. Whee!

Road trips with puppies are fun!

That looks like it was tons of fun. Very pretty area. Ryder’s one lucky girl!
What did you do to get called a flagrant homo?

If they really used the word ‘flagrant’ you should have given them $5 for even knowing what the word meant ;p

Ahhh, the liftlock. Memories of childhood summers… I have lots of family up there. Yay for roadtrips!

Just doing my job. I have to project a ton of energy to get anything out of the kids. Just like theater, this involves me over-gesticulating and over-acting my emotions. I guess I could be seen as kinda gay.

I work with high school kids. I find that the best way to gain their respect is to make sure they know that you don’t give a shit what they think about you.

I frequently say things like, “Dude, to be fair, you are in high school and do not actually know anything. Also, you are hardwired to act rashly. That’s why cultists try to recruit people your age. I mean, you are capable of making your own choices, but save yourself time and just do what I say.” It generally works.

You know what though? I would enjoy it if they called me a flagrant homo. I receive a perverse sense of enjoyment when people try to belittle me. It fills me with joy on the inside.
