Puppies - you can’t have just one

April 29, 2009

Last Saturday Adventure Man took off for Alberta. Unfortunately, Alberta hates freedom. And puppies. So before driving out West, Adventure Man took a short detour through KW to drop off Rufus, the floppy haired puppy who’ll be staying with us for the next four months.

I don’t think we were ready for this.

Thus, we were taken entirely by surprise when Ryder barred her teeth and lounged at the poor boy who was innocently wagging his tail eager to meet her.

This is apparently what dogs do.

Over the past five days, we’ve learned more about dog behaviour than we ever thought possible. We learned, for instance, that male dogs don’t fight back against girl dogs; that introducing the dogs on neutral territory is key; that crates can be a dog’s best friend; and that exhausting both dogs makes everything OK.

So Adventure Dog has been going on lots of adventures to more easily adapt to the pack. He’s starting to fit in and Ryder seems to have accepted him as well. Now they spend hours on end playing with each other.

Yay for extra puppies in our lives!
