Spring Cleaning goes to the dogs

March 22, 2009

Whee! It’s that time of the year again — doggy bath time.

We typically hose down the dog about once a year. Back in the day when she rolled around in piles of rotten poo we had to do it more frequently. But we quickly found that she was constantly itching as a result and could only relive her itch by rolling around in more poo. This made for a stinky Catch 22.

Now we bathe her in the spring, and she’s starting to enjoy our yearly ritual. Her enjoyment is due in no small part to the treatment she gets afterwards. Because her fur is so soft when it dries, we spend a whole night compulsively petting her belly. Yay for soft puppy bellies! And not smelling like poop!

Update: less than a week after washing her, the puppy decided to roll around in swamp water at the dog park. Laura had to scrub her down again.
