We’ll Map Everything
June 28, 2007
Google maps is pretty neat. They not only launched the whole “drag the blue line to change your route” thing (you got to try it to see), but more importantly, they made it ridiculously easy to map anything you want. Like good places to eat burgers. Or Tudor’s ass in the wilderness. Which, of course, is exactly what people look for on a map.
So over the last two days I put together two maps of the trips we took this summer:
Grand River Trip (map)
One morning Laura and I loaded the car with beer, a dog, and an old typewriter, and drove down the Grand River. Along the way we made out in forests, hanged out beneath power lines, jumped naked in the air, considered buying slightly used mattresses, and spent an evening naked under violent skies caressing dead writing machines.
Bruce Peninsula Trip (map)
At the beginning of June I spent four days camping in the wilderness with Ryder the dog. It was a pretty intense bonding experience: we hiked for two entire days, drank swamp water together, slept in the same tent, and peed in the same bushes.
That’s why when the temperature dropped at night and she started shivering like mad besides me, it felt natural to unzip my sleeping bag, pull her inside, and go back to sleep with her in my arms. We spooned for the rest of the cold night, her paws awkwardly sticking out into the darkness.
