Portrait Project - 2007

June 07, 2007

As some of you may know, this month I’m taking a portrait course I’m rather excited about: we get to play with lights, foam, and really neat ways of capturing people. The studio itself is in an old, gutted church, which makes the whole thing even cooler. But what’s even more exciting is that everyone gets to design a photo project.

And my project involves you. You see, you and I once interacted in a fairly homogenous environment: we went to Laurier and hanged out in largely the same groups. But then stuff happened: graduations, love affairs, sudden departures to the wilderness. And now we’re scattered across the province (Barrie, suburbia, malls), still trying to figure out what happend, where we’re going, and how to turn dreams into something concrete.

Thus, I want to travel around the province this summer and capture you in your new lives. Exciting, lovely things have happend to you since leaving Laurier, even if it’s just your interactions with coop students. And five years down the road, I want to repeat the journey and chronicle the changes that have happened since.

Over the next few weeks I’ll get in touch with you about setting up a portrait session. Or, if you’re really burning with a desire to help out, you could contact me and tell me where you’re at. Whee!

Oh oh oh, can I be a portrait subject too, even though I didn’t go to Laurier, and wasn’t a stop on the first journey?

That sounds like a brilliant and exciting project Tudor! I am interested to see the first set of results.

I’ve got to say that this is both arousing and amusing!

Sounds like a keen project. You going to post the progress online?
