Hyperlink My Bike Ride

March 12, 2006

Saturday morning tasted like spring, vitamin D, and rainbows, which gave us at least three good reasons to polish our death machines and pedal down busy highways without hamlets or fears. One smooth, uninterrupted motion took us all the way into Elmira’s maple groves where trees dripped with sweetness.

Consequently, we tasted their syrup, growled with hunger, licked dead sardines on the pavement, ate apples, and finally went on to search for kissing bridges.

Unfortunately, all the kissing bridges mysteriously disappeared to be replaced by large, placid ungulates. They sniffed our hands with wet nostrils, and we fed them our apples: their horse-tongues flickered in gratitude and their liquid, dark eyes asked for more.

Horses are pretty. We couldn’t say no.

After some intense petting, we finally said goodbye to them and left Elmira with hellish glee to devour eggs in Waterloo and fall asleep on couches.

Did you ever find West Montrose? It’s in an out-of-the-way place… and the bridge is just outside of ‘town’(: There’s a very nice ice cream shop there, too.

We gave up finding the bridge once we ran into the horses. It seemed quite a way off from Elmira.

we might go back for ice cream though. ice cream is key.

It is a bit of a ways… A loop to and back is about 80K from Waterloo. I did it once (waaay back before my back went) and it was quite a ride! You should hook up with my husband. He’s really into road riding(:
