I’m A Writer, Baby

January 18, 2006

Almost a month after my startling interview in Guelph, I got an early-morning call informing me that I’m now a writer. And not just any kind of writer. A technical writer.

My manuals shall be works of wonder and delight!

aww. you’re shreading my heart into a thousand bleeding pieces. you mean i won’t get to be a high priest of the machine age, mediating the void between technology and humanoids? are you saying that my reports won’t aid IT governance decision making? is there no hope for poetry, drama?

Hey! Allow me to be the first of your brethren to congratulate you and welcome you to the hoard. :) That’s excellent news. And yes, the docs are sometimes boring, but I’m crying all the way to the bank. Tee hee. When do you start?

I TOLD you they were slow. :)

Good job, Tudor and congratulations.
I hope you weren’t too attached to your hair, ‘cause you may not have any after working as a tech writer for awhile.

Note: the only thing you’ll be mediating is the void between developers and end users. In other words, you just got a job translating Geek into English.

There is, however, lots of room for drama. Believe me, a few dev meetings will convince you of that one!

You realize you have to join the tw cult now, eh?

it decision making.. dude the only time decisions are made in IT is when a product is sold.. the sales guys make up rediculous requirements for the software and then the dev team tells them to suck a nut, then the sales guys go to the product managers and bitch and complain and then the product managers delegate work to make the sale happen.. only problem is this happens so often ive been working for 4 months in R&D and i have only really completed one project.. haha

dude its interesting but its not a glamourous job its dirty and gritty.. and youll get a nice beer gut for sitting on your ass all day..

haha which is why once all my debt is paid off i will be quitting to go to teachers college so i can shape the minds of tommorow!

Congratulations on your new job! w00t w00t!

Oooh babe, promise me you’ll grow a nice beer gut while you’re acting as high priest of the machine age! That’d be delicious.

Many many CONGRATULATIONS, you tech writer, you :).

Congrats, man! So uh.. is your place still hiring? :)

Posted by: Dave on January 19, 2006 at 12:52 AM

Dave, they only have one tech writer in the whole goddamn institution. me. apparently, my job mainly involves documenting existing IT processes so they can make decisions/predictions of future needs, etc. it’s not really a development environment, so it should be interesting.

Opal, you were right. As always. I’ll join the cult now.

And thanks for the encouraging words, everyone. I’ll let you know how it all goes once I actually start (the 30th).

I would prefer to be wrong, you know. Please, show me the wonder in this job, Tudor!

It’s really sweet that you have a little over a week of freedom before starting too. Carpe diem! :)

I’m probably delusional, but shouldn’t it be ‘I got aN early-morning call’?

I am not an English major, so please refrain from throwing things.

My real purpose for this comment, you ask? CONGRATULATIONS!!!!
Teh glee.

nope. i’m delusional. over the next little while you can look forward to dozens of manuals lacking articles.

and thanks :)
