When I was a kid, I used to torment flies in all sorts of devious ways. That’s when I discovered fire and found out that flies can burn in bright flames if you hold them above a lighter in a certain way. So it was strange walking through the market today dozens of dead flies on the windowstills. That’s what my room used to look like after a successful extermination session. I wondered how many sadistic kids were running around St. Jacobs tormenting bugs. Did they discover fire? Were their methods more swift than mine?
