Sudden Growth

August 06, 2005

Remember the cactus I once rubbed against my penis and called it art? (Or self discovery? Or something?) Strange things happened to it when I wasn’t looking — parts of it withered, it sprouted new life, and now it has tentacles reaching into the earth. Monstrous. My penis has that kind of effect on things.

“I suddenly feel I’ve become an archetype,” I told Laura one evening pointing to my cactus.

“How so?”

“In Jungian psychology the Wizard archetype is the creative, productive force — the guy walking around with a wand fertilizing things. The opposite archetype is the Earth — the passive and fertile force acted upon by the magician’s wand.”

“So you have a wand now?” she asked.

“I fertilize the earth!”

“Bullshit,” she said.

“Listen, I always wanted to be an archetype rather than a stereotype,” I said. “Don’t take this away from me.”

“Ok, I’ll call you wiz now.”

Damn you. This is fascinating to watch. I’m trying to go to bed, but I keep wanting to know what you’re going to post next. *sigh* I’m such a geek.

Okay, my last parting ‘shot’ as it were… Your comment about being a wizard with a ‘wand’ made me think of this song by Terry Pratchett’s inimitable grandmother witch- Nanny Ogg.

Now. Goodnight.

Well, in the book there’s a verse about ‘a wizard’s staff has a knob on the end’, but that was the best I could come up with on short notice with an URL. Glad you liked it…

Okay. I found a good link. It has a couple of filk versions. Just scoll down until you see ‘Terry Pratchett’.
