Make up words day
August 04, 2005
I know Internet Dave mainly through his blog, but last night he came by for scrabble, coffee, and many glasses of wine. Scrabble is the worst board game to play with someone you don’t yet know — it’s a vicious game that makes people angry, vulgar. Dave and I spent a lot of time staring at our tiles in stony silence as Laura watched. Now and then we swore randomly and drank wine.
Wine eventually makes everything enjoyable — even scrabble. We played with made-up words.
“Aa is lava in Hawaii,” Dave said. “I’ve actually studied aa for one of my geology projects.”
“Yes,” I said. “Aa is specific to Hawaii — it occurs deep inside the local volcanoes and nowhere else. It’s so named because when you put your fingers in it you’re forced to say ah-ah.”
“That’s a complete lie,” Dave said.
We drank more wine and told other lies about scrabble orgies, coons, discourses and intercourses. It’s strange hanging out with internet people — all kinds of boundaries dissolve in an instant. Lately I’ve been running into dozens of people whose lives I read online, and each time the experience is wonderful and strange. That’s what you get when everybody has a blog — a world that’s connected and throbbing.
Everybody I meet knows what I eat for breakfast.

PS Scrabble is game of violence and depravity.

Thanks again for the company. Can’t wait for the next time!

Posted by: Dave on August 04, 2005 at 05:33 PMThat’s such a great photo, hehe - and no, not ‘Poor Laura’, some day I will have my sweet Scrabble revenge, some day - but the photo is pretty damn funny (we laughed pretty hard about that one).
And it was great hanging out with you too Dave, next time I won’t be writing essays and I’ll actually play along, and we’ll drink even more wine - can’t wait (you son of a fuck)!
Posted by: Laura on August 04, 2005 at 05:38 PMWhat Clemens said. That is cool to meet some fellow bloggers. Is that how you met Laura? (I am only working on a half of a brain cell right now)
Posted by: jules on August 04, 2005 at 09:59 PMWe need to have Clemens’ blog party so I can meet everyone and say shocking things about communists.

“You will take me to Jabba now”
Posted by: David Alexander on August 05, 2005 at 10:40 AMWhat, pray tell, is a blog party? Folks all get online at the same time and post??(:
Posted by: spindriftdancer on August 05, 2005 at 01:27 PMBlog party sounds like a really bad British rock group. Call it something like, “crashing Tudor’s place and drinking all his booze”
Posted by: Dave on August 05, 2005 at 01:32 PMAh. That makes more sense to me(: Kind of like a ‘block party’, only…. different…
Posted by: spindriftdancer on August 05, 2005 at 02:40 PMI’m out for the 19th… won’t be in town. Perhaps we could have 2? I’m working on details for one at my place on the 26th.
