Hillside In Pictures
July 26, 2005
The weekend was full of smiles and hidden cameras. These are the images that made my camera happy:
Funny quote: “The Stars would be awesome if they would shoot Torquil Campbell and burn his corpse in a garbage bin,” Matty said.
Update: Regan uploaded his hillside pictures to flicker. He says I look like a redneck godzilla. Nicole just uploaded her pictures too.
Posted by Tudor at 05:31 PM in Ideas & Images | TrackBacki laughed heartily at “that strange smile”. strange indeeeeeed.
Posted by: Aimee on July 26, 2005 at 08:30 PMone more thing you can pass onto your friend matty… my label, who brought your hate filled comments about me to my attention is consulting with an attorney about whether these comments of his in a public forum constitute slander and defamation of character…so maybe we can all laugh at his “funny quote” about wanting to kill me all together in a court of law…pretty fucking hilarious huh? torq@STARS
Posted by: torquil campbell on August 08, 2005 at 12:41 AMHey, Fucknuts, you only need to use one period. Also, Torquil is a stupid name.
Posted by: corwin on August 08, 2005 at 03:58 AMironically, Torquil sounds a hell of a lot like…………….. CORWIN!!!!!!!……………………. don’t you think?
love, torq
oh, boy. here we go again with threats of litigation. but first let’s clarify a couple of things:
first: corwin didn’t write the first message — it comes from a different IP address. so the person who posted the first may very well be Torquil. Indeed, he also wrote a comment on matty’s site
second: in case of litigation we would hear directly form lawyers — the actual people involved would never comment out of fear of damaging their case. Torquil would have to be pretty silly to comment on this site.
third: to the best of my understanding, the statement above is not libelous. rather, it is a critique of torquil’s performance. the statement states: “it’s my opinion that this torquil guy sucks at making music. the Stars would be better without him.” It is a harsh critique, to be sure, but it is not a slanderous critique.
It would be libelous ONLY IF Matty spread lies about Torquil (e.g. Torquil raped animals on stage). A critique of Torquil’s performance/talent would not be considered libelous. of course, Torquil can unleash his lawyers and bully Matty in withdrawing his statements — but that doesn’t necessarily that matty is wrong in his critique.
fourth: there is a difference between death threads and slander. a statement like “I’m gonna Bob” is a death threat. the statement above, however, is not a death threat. it doesn’t say matty is going to kill Torquil with a musical instrument — it says that his band mates should consider doing away with Torquil in a hyperbolic way.
fifth: torquil should learn about irony, criticism, and hyperbole.
Posted by: Tudor on August 08, 2005 at 10:06 AM“I’m gonna bob!” sounds far more like a faux-witty byline in a porno movie than a death threat.
Posted by: Clemens on August 08, 2005 at 12:00 PMArts & Crafts has a staff member with the job description of “Scouring personal web pages for people who poke fun at our bands?”
Lead singers of said bands are expected to respond to hyperbolic Hunter S. Thompson lines personally? That’s in the contract?
Wow, neat!
Posted by: Fraser on August 08, 2005 at 01:23 PMTudor, you’re friends with Matt Phillips?
I went to high school with him and now he ignores me.
Posted by: David Alexander on August 08, 2005 at 01:37 PMDave, I don’t know Matt Philips, but from what you said he sounds like an asshole. It would be awesome if his friends would shoot him and burn his corpse in a garbage bin (hahaha! my sense of humour is totally inapropriate for the situation.)
I found the link to his review through Allison’s blog and I thought his critique of the weekend was pretty great.
Fraser, I think Arts and Crafts has a policy that encourages the lead singers to get offended and personally involved whenever someone questions their musical talents. That’s why they’re awesome.
Update: Matty made his entry private. I’m gonna make my whole blog private. Oh, shit — I can’t.
Posted by: Tudor on August 08, 2005 at 01:51 PMI was gonna say that; the situation called for it… but I mean him no ill will. That said, his review was kind of pretentious.
Do you know Allison? I think she went to my highschool too, although I’m not sure I ever met her. Fraser I know. Hi Fraser!
Dave Alexander! I’m really not trying to ignore you. I saw you at the show last month, and felt really badly about not stopping to say hi, to be honest. The friends I was with at the time insisted we push forward to the front of the crowd and I felt I’d lose them, which in retrospect was rather cold of me. In any case, I didn’t mean to seem like I was ignoring you at all. I hope you’re well!
Tudor - thanks for linking while you did (I didn’t see it until this morning, or I would have made thanks sooner), and yeah I privatized it, and edited the comment. Again in retrospect it was kind of harsh, and as Fraser has mentioned it was more of an homage to HST than a true hatred of Campell. Regardless of whether or not the commenter is actually Campbell, I figured that self-preservation and good taste should rise above internet celebrity anyhow. Sorry if it seems like a cop-out; it was good to finally meet you at Hillside!
Posted by: Matty on August 08, 2005 at 02:52 PMWhy did we have to clarify that I didn’t post the first comment? Injustice! I shall sue you for even suggesting it.
Also, I heard Torquil raped baby Jesus.
Posted by: corwin on August 08, 2005 at 03:20 PMyou’re such an asshole, corwin. eat dick.
Posted by: Tudor on August 08, 2005 at 03:26 PMHey Matt,
Sorry I called you pretentious. If it makes you feel better, I write poems on my blog. Anyhow, I mostly was offended that you dissed hippies, your review was actually pretty good. Plus I spend a lot of my time trying to look tough…
Posted by: David Alexander on August 08, 2005 at 06:19 PMhey corwin, you ignorant slut, you got it wrong again………………..i didn’t rape baby jesus, HE raped me……..right in the ass………..and it felt gooooood……….a religious experience you might almost say……….see, i can be “ironic” and “humorous” too…………well, i think that brings to a close my time with you bunch of geniuses………..see you at the grammies………
love and hate, mr.t
hahaha what the fuck? Tudor, you get the best trolls.
Posted by: sra on August 09, 2005 at 10:03 PMCan I keep him? I promise to feed him and make sure he goes out for a walk and stuff.
Posted by: corwin on August 10, 2005 at 01:21 AMperhaps torquil of the stars should get his own blog instead of being mocked on mine. mr. t.
