How to Get a Job
June 08, 2005
You’ve been unemployed long enough. Put on your only suit and a pair of black socks and walk through the midday heat dripping sweat in search of a place where they hire people like you.
A small non-profit company somewhere on the edge of Waterloo is looking for a public relations agent. Waltz into their office sweating like a filthy animal and shake their hands. Say, “I’m good at PR — it’s practically all I do.”
They’ll ask you if you can write manuals. Say yes, beaming with excitement. For some reason they’ll choose to believe you. Offer to also rearrange their furniture. Desperation has an ugly stench.
They’ll call you four hours later to tell you you’ve got the job — they want the bookcases moved against the walls. They’ll ask you if you’re willing to come in tomorrow. “Hell yes,” say.
Tomorrow you’ll have to be all professional and shit. But for now you can go find the woman you love and dance naked in the rain with her. Rain feels orgasmic when it rushes down your naked ribs.

Posted by: Laura M on June 09, 2005 at 12:27 AMpeople like you make me insanely jealous — able to walk into a place and have a job four hours later — plus you’ve had rain (damn Toronto and it’s gradual desertification)

Posted by: David Alexander on June 09, 2005 at 01:14 AMCongrats, Tudor. That was smooth… don’t tell them you have a blog for a couple months. ;)
Posted by: martin on June 09, 2005 at 08:19 AMSo are you the company manager of furniture placement now or what? Or is that just a side perk to being a nonstop PR machine?
Posted by: Clemens on June 09, 2005 at 11:04 AMMoving furniture is a side perk. As for the blog, it’s not something I have the urge to disclose to everyone ;). hehehe.
Work is fun, but it’s nothing to envy — I mainly get paid in peanuts.
Posted by: Tudor on June 09, 2005 at 01:16 PMYour non-profit corporation can afford peanuts!?!
Posted by: David Alexander on June 09, 2005 at 03:20 PMTudor: Congratulations on the job! That’s great!
