Submit!

Fuck! I can’t stop talking about the WLUSU essay competition!

Dan reminded me today that I haven’t seen the other submissions, and thus I’m in a poor position to comment on the winners. Besides, he says, “you completely overlook the fact that some research went into the winning essay.”

Maybe I do lack perspective — that’s why I’d love to see what the other essays are like. Did I overreact when I questioned the judging of the contest? Could it be that WLUSU did a fantastic job of selecting the winners?

Thus, if you submitted an essay to the competition, please forward me a copy of what you wrote (email to tudor.costache@gmail.com). I’ll fairly critique each essay I receive (specifically, I’m looking for solid arguments, clear writing, and interesting ideas). This will benefit both you and me, since I’m going to offer suggestions on how you can improve your writing.

At the end, I’m going to select a winner who will receive a $25 gift certificate to my favourite bookstore. Just for kicks, even if you haven’t submitted your essay to the official competition, you can do so now — essays are fun!

I don’t care much about the essays…but what’s your favourite bookstore?

I’ll read any essay you want to enter. Especially about small, furry animals.

whats the deadline for submissions?

I’m feeling pissed and cynical, and might be able to throw something interesting your way. (recentral theme: cult theory.)

Posted by: Keren on March 20, 2005 at 05:59 PM

I’d be interested to see how you’d justify the cult theory, Keren. I figure there’s a higher level of volunteerism due to three things (and I may write a short piece on this): the close proximity of our campus and the housing around it; the indocrination and the presence of WLUSU volunteers during O-Week, and the makeup of the current class coming into Laurier.

What do you think?

Posted by: Dan on March 20, 2005 at 06:44 PM

Dan, you call it indoctrination, we call it a cult … with our tongues firly in our cheek.

We’re going to make the deadline for this March 27th and I’ll set up some sort of awards ceremony that may or may not involve Wilf’s and booze.

Submit away!

haha, nice…I may or may not write something random, depending on my mood this week. If I continue on my current path of apathy for real schoolwork, you can count on it.
