Freedom in the Park on the Seventh Day
July 28, 2004
The following is a transcript of notes made on July 21, the 7th day of my trek:
People energize me. I was biking this morning with a broken gear cable I encountered another cyclist; he’s making his way from Alaska to Newfoundland, a three-month journey. We talked briefly about roads and Tobermory, and afterwards I breezed through the 40 km to the John E. Pearce Provincial Park.
And the park is spectacular: huge cliffs of clay are constantly battered by the waves, and the empty beach made me take off my clothes and splash in the waves. My ravaged body felt divine in the cool water, and even more so on the sandy beach.
Looks like I’ll spend another night with the sound of waves in my ears.
